Basement Playroom

Funny how things change when you have kids. This use to be our overflow room for weekend guests, our alcohol and bar storage. HA! All the furniture that didn't fit anywhere else ended up in this space. Well, when baby #2 came around, we realized we needed more space for kid stuff. So, we sold the furniture and stored the bar supplies to accommodate what else??? kid toys!!

This is our long, narrow basement family/playroom. We're not able to replace the forest green carpeting yet. So we're working on the things we can afford at this time. Such as, the 80's oak fireplace mantel (not shown in this pic), oak railing and landing mantel. Brass fireplace parts (lovely!).
This was the start of this project. I apologize, these are not great photos. The toys got pushed around and the whole space got a fresh coat of paint. Had to stay light, since it's a dark space with little natural light.

My beloved handy husband and I put together a plan to put in some built-in looking bookshelves. We're not experts at this, so these are not perfect, but I think they turned out pretty good. Book shelf #1. Notice the painted white fireplace mantel in the back! Much better than it was before!
Bookshelf #1 installed.
Bookshelf #2 completed and installed.
Working on the finishing trim.

At this point, we're ALMOST done. Here's a little sneak peak of things slowly coming together:
More to come!!

Alex's First Birthday!

It was a small occasion, but we couldn't skip celebrating our baby's first birthday! So I hadn't planned well, and the only cake in the pantry was pink! HA. So to make up for the pink cake I decided it must have BLUE icing! Extreme Blue Icing. Not thinking about the blue mess it might create after!

Alex on his Birthday!
Reading with Grammy.
Grammy and Pappy as a jungle gym!
Pink cake. BLUE icing!
At age 1, Alex has about 5 teeth. Three on bottom, and two on top. He's a funny kid. We call him trouble, because he is into everything. Pulling drawers open, flying up the stairs, and making a mess of everything. Way more than Aidan was at this age. He's taking his time learning to walk, and that may not be a bad thing. HA! He is a sweet boy too. Loves to jabber back at you when you talk to him. His first words were "Jack Jack", and of course "Dada". And was early to figure out the use of "uh-oh"!! Probably a sign of things to come. : )
We love you big guy! You have been a perfect addition to our family! Our life is so much better with you in it! Happy 1st Birthday Sweet Pea!

Christmas with the McCabe's

It was a white McCabe Christmas!
The boys were so excited to see presents again (2 weeks after Christmas Day).
We sure missed Aunt Lolly though. Next year!!!

Christmas at Great Grandma Young's

Christmas Eve and Christmas Morning 2010

A very late post. But a few pics of our Christmas Day! Alex's first Christmas, and our first Christmas as a family of four. It was very special for us! Christmas Eve with cookies for Santa, and Christmas stories read. And a Christmas morning as magical as ever!

Getting ready to go to Great Grandma's House!
