Surgery

As I updated most of you yesterday, Chris's surgery (called hemi-thyroidectomy) went well. The anticipation, and a 3 hour delay was pretty rough, but the surgery went as expected. He recovered in the hospital over night, and was able to come home this morning. He has been in some pain and is learning just how much you rely on your neck muscles for just about everything. His voice comes and goes due to the stress on everything in his throat area and the intubation. They have him on perkoset and an antibiotic to help. We have a follow up next week to take the magic tape off (there are no stitches), and review pathology reports on the state of his thyroid. We're praying that we hear nothing more of the "c" word.

A HUGE thank you goes out to my wonderful Father in Law Wayne, aka Bampa (grandpa) for helping with Aidan (and Chris) so much over the last couple days.

Here are a few pics of my gimp. We have nicknamed him Frankenstein, since he walks with a stiff neck right now. Pics are from yesterday.
Here is a pic from today - the bandages/tape work like stitches apparently.

Tell Chris to hang in there...I've been there, done that surgery. It's not so bad :-)

Oh yuk Jackie! Did you have the big slit across your neck as well? Chris still has some pain, even 5 days later!

Yes ma'am, I did. It has faded enough that you didn't even notice it did you? I had that surgery back in 1996 :-)

When it starts to heal, he will feel tingling. It's an odd feeling, as much of my scar is still numb (yes even after this long), but it is the nerve endings he's feeling.

He'll be fine :-)
