Summer Recap

It has been a really great summer. I feel so blessed to have summers at home with my kiddos. And being a stay at home Mom REALLY has it's perks during the warm summer days. And it has been HOT. One of our hottest summers on record! Of course we spent a lot of time at our neighborhood pool cooling off, such a blast since there are a ton of little boys around here! And most of all my mom's group, who has been soo much more than just a mom's group. We've made some really great friends, and they've all become one big family to us. Aidan has now grown up with these kids for the last 2 years, and it's been fun to watch them become good friends. And soon he'll start preschool with some of them.
Aidan has been playing hard this summer. He's really turning into a fun little preschooler. He started the summer stuck in the struggle between toddlerhood and boyhood. We had a rough few weeks with behavior issues. Fits and tantrums became a regular as we dealt with the growing pains, and his struggles with having a new brother. But we've come through it all, and he's become a sweet, bright and active little boy. He's becoming a much better sharer with his brother and friends. Remembers to say please & thank you. And understands & remembers so much more than you think. And he is a sweet boy who loves everyone and is very outgoing and friendly to all. His favorite things right now are red popsicles, cheese-its, watching movies, and playing with his friend Jonathan. And of course he loves a good playground. We've pretty much transitioned out of naps on most days. Which means he crashes hard at bedtime.
Alex is now almost 8 months old. He has been the easiest baby (and Aidan was very easy, but Alex is even easier!) He is such a joy. He's been sleeping through the night since 3 months, eats very well, is content most all of the time. And is a sweet sweet boy. Cuddles, smiles & coos to all around him. And seems to be taking his time learning to crawl, which is fine by me! Aidan is active enough for the both of them! Ha! Oh, and he's very BIG. We're talking 95% in length. He looks like an 18 month old! And, in fact, is wearing some 18 month old clothes!!! His hair is a thing all in it's own. He's got a natural mohawk going on. It's quite humorous.
Chris's workload has been pretty intense. Since I've known him, this is the most demanding job thus far. His days are long and his commute is long. This job holds his greatest responsibility ever. He comes home quite stressed and thinking of all that he has to do the following day. But with all this has come some of his greatest kudos as well. And it is important right now, as we're looking at our final year as active duty, and retirement is on the horizon. One year to go! So the kudos and responsibility will hopefully reflect well on him when it's time for a "real" job ;-) We're looking forward to it!
For me, it's been the busiest summer of my life. Lots of activities, lots of housework, lots of laundry, lots of dirty diapers, potty training mishaps, lots of meals & bottles made, lots of memories made and photos taken! Lots of much needed Mom's Nights Out :-) Taking care of 2 young children has been challenging, and of course, rewarding. Busy and calm. Crazy and sane. Good and bad. Hard and easy. All across the board. I just hope all my hard work pays off and we're able to create 2 well adjusted, bright, and loving boys. I feel like I haven't had a lot of time to focus on too much else really. My marriage, my kids and my family. House projects, and fun with friends make up the rest.
We've had some fun highlights this summer. Camping a few times, the beach a few times, lots of picnics, walks, playgrounds, BBQ's, amusement parks, lakes, playgroups, pools, and tons more. Now we're looking forward to cooler weather and pumpkins. Hopefully another camping trip, more BBQ's, another trip to the beach, another amusement park, and preschool! Yay! Life is good and we definitely don't take it for granted. We feel blessed and thankful for all that we have. It's been a great summer!! September starts tomorrow!!!!
